"For any other President, this hearing would be the most damning and humiliating of their lives. But for Trump, it's just Wednesday"
--Saturday Night Live Michael Cohen skit, 2019
Is it 2022 yet?
Because 2021 is not starting out so well. I had tears in my eyes watching the horrendous insurrection unfold at the Capitol Building yesterday as Donald Trump egged his eggheads on and ordered them to "show strength," which for them translated to violence. These are not merely trespassers--these are domestic terrorists, plain and simple. And it's important to note that the racial makeup of these goons was almost completely white; suspicion remains about the length of time it took to get the National Guard to the bloody scene.
The rampage in Washington D.C. on January 6th almost immediately cost the life of a 35 year old woman--a Trump supporter--and it's reported that the others died via violence or medical conditions. The rest had mental conditions, particularly the ones carrying Confederate flags, QuackAnon signs and military weapons. Our lawmakers and others fled the immediate area, fearing for their lives.
This alarming display of misinformation gone berserk and carried out to physical extremes can be directly blamed on Domestic Terrorist in Chief Donald Trump, not to mention "news" outlets like Newsmax and OAN (Fox ain't so great, either). The "law and order President" eventually told his flock to "go home" but repeated his wild accusations of voter fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election and then, "we love you--you're very special." Who is "we," anyway? Perhaps "we" means Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, just two of the destructive cowards who should resign from their elected positions. They knew better than to promote these baseless theories about election fraud but did it anyway. Representatives Mo Brooks and Paul Gosar seem dumber than that but should be held accountable as well; three of Gosar's siblings--who once did an ad in favor of his political opponent--think he should be removed from office.
It was a terrifying situation similar to and yet unlike other tragedies our country has seen and certainly shook up citizens around the globe, who (somehow) still regard the United States as a haven of ideals that include the peaceful transition of power. This dim-witted coup attempt has defiled the United States and has humiliated us throughout the world.
Only thirteen days left in Trump's presidency but it feels like months. The man is not well; he must be removed from office before he does any more damage to our beloved nation.
