Led Zeppelin's "D'yer Mak'er." How do you pronounce it?
Yes, it's "Germ MAY-ker." As in Jamaica, as in reggae rhythm meets John Bonham's sonic boom of a drum pattern. I heard this pronunciation of the song title on a radio show, and it has to be correct. It makes perfect sense.
So how did I miss this for 35 years? People I knew always argued that it was pronounced "Dee-yer Maker" or "Dye-yer Maker."
Reminds me just a little of what my late Dad said about Yosemite National Park.
He said he didn't know it was "Yo SEM it-tee," because he'd never heard anyone pronounce it. He thought it was "YO suh might."
