Then I tried Pandora--who will be paying more in music licensing fees in 2016--myself one night while she was on that trip. It was wretched! (More about that another time.)
What you really should have on, if you want holiday music, is my friend Tom Baker's
"No Static at All--Just Christmas" (on the My Radio Stream site). He's put his Classic Rock station on hold until the holidays are over and has devoted a tremendous amount of work to this project.
It is indeed a labor of love. There are thousands of songs, from rare and obscure to the usual favorites, and presented in a lively, fun way, with drop-ins like Christmas greetings from Al Hirt to Alice Cooper.
Of course, every music lover's taste is unique, so there are the occasional times when you may think that there's too much of one thing and not enough of the other. In the grand scheme of it all, however, it's easy to discern that Tom's programming is well-thought out and informed by a sense of balance. He knows, unlike most radio programmers and consultants, that if one of the all-time favorites like Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" gets played, it shouldn't be followed up with anything but a track that the average person has not heard much, or at all.
I doubt that you'll be disappointed. Check out the My Radio Stream and "No Static at All--Just Christmas." It's the most wonderful site of the year.
And if you're singing "Frosty the Snowman," after the "two eyes made out of coal" part, sneak in the phrase, "but not from fracking!"
