Appearing on a split screen with News Hour host Judy Woodruff one day after originally scheduled--needed more time to rehearse, Mike?--the veep pretended to answer questions about the government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic without delving into them at all. He was long-winded, evasive and not even skillful; if I can spot truth decay within seconds, the average American can.
Pence was asked to explain the critical lack of national testing for the Coronavirus yet instead went into a plastic, phony tribute to the nation's first responders and health care professionals. This unintentional transparency was--no pun intended--sickening to watch. Though she was reasonably well-prepared for the session, I wish Woodruff would have said, "Mr. Vice President, you didn't answer my question," if only to remind him that he wasn't getting away with his dishonest little stunt.
It's appalling how Pence and Trump worry more about their political careers than helping to heal our nation. How else can one judge this obvious display of insincerity? This was clearly Mike Pence the politician of scant substance, not someone who cares about any person outside his toxic circle. Keep shoveling that crap at us, Mike. We're not buying it.
