Hypocrisy abounded from most of the speakers and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley typified my criticism. She said that there is no racism in the United States but talked about her upbringing, where her father wore a turban and her family was subject to discrimination. So, no racism but...discrimination?
Economic adviser Larry Kudlow was especially out of touch, as he delivered a barf city speech pretending this virus is all in the past and so is the economic hardship that accompanies it. Dishonest and stupid.
I have to give the First Lady, Melania Trump, kudos for refusing the speech that was written for her and bringing empathy to the one she penned for herself; caring and understanding were in short supply at the convention. She suggested that citizens everywhere are suffering from the coronavirus but of course was not allowed to say that word, a term President Trump wants everyone to forget as thousands die every day.
If you couldn't take any of the Republican grandstanding. check out The Daily Show's Trevor Noah and his "What the Hell Happened at the RNC?" on YouTube. His commentary is crazy funny and there's a clip I'd not seen anywhere else. In it, the President and Melania are smiling before a crowd--it's probably at the conclusion of one of the four nights--and Trump's daughter Ivanka cuts right in front of Melania and stops by her father's side, on his right. Melania's face has turned into a complete scowl, as I guess she was "upstaged" (not sure how that ego-driven stuff works). A little bit of rivalry in the White House, evidently.
Would somebody tell some of the news outlets that Joe Biden is not the president? All the chaos in our dysfunctional union comes down to the man who is currently our "leader"--one who cannot unite the White House, let alone the country.
