On the positive side, I've finally got music to play on my headset when I'm working in the library! I found out from Gina that she got me an iPod several weeks ago but hasn't had time to program it yet; I don't deserve one anyway until I find myself a second job.
Anyway, I've really missed listening to music for pleasure, and many of my co-workers play books on tape or podcasts or music to groove to while we work. I could wait no longer, so I tried out the two small CD players (each just a little larger than a six-inch compact disc) that were collecting dust in a drawer and one of them actually worked!
This is such an improvement to my life, I tell ya. I have to do so much skimming through music for the radio show and that's a bit laborious; now I can get to really know a new album or play an old favorite each day. A few years ago, I compiled a series of discs called "Pretending I have an iPod" and does that stuff sound wonderful. Who
knew the drumming on Janis Joplin's cover of "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)" was so good; I'd probably never heard it on headphones before.
Just one tune each from miscellaneous artists on my little player brought me such joy today: The Dave Clark Five, Lefty Frizzell, Van Morrison, Les Paul & Mary Ford,
LaVern Baker, Ritchie Valens, Dwight Twilley, B.B. King, the Hollies....That's the stuff that should be on oldies stations but has by and large been forgotten. Not by me.
