Not sure I took all the precautions I should have. It was scheduled for December 8th, John Lennon's death day. I was wearing a T-shirt that had the word "error" on it. Hmm.
The colonoscopy went really well. The procedure was basically like this: Was given intravenous therapy (needed glucose to trickle in because of my diabetes). I was told to lie on my side, fell asleep in less than a minute, and the next thing I knew, they said I was done. No soreness or anything afterward. I don't even recall Gina assisting me to get into the car to get back home. I simply arrived there and crashed for two hours.
Gina was just extraordinary in helping me plan, calming me--she bought me so many different strained juices and broths that we had to return the unopened ones. Drinking that stuff and going on a liquid diet the day before the procedure was the difficult part, not the hospital stay. Thank you for your advice and wisdom, my partner. And she's rather pleased that on my radio show last week, I resisted the temptation to play
Nick Lowe's "Stick It Where the Sun Don't Shine."
If your doctor says you should get this screening, please don't delay. Your loved ones will thank you for it. Update, December 15th: I learned that the two polyps that were removed were not cancerous.
Health-wise, that's another great piece of news for me. I'm doing really well; at my physical last month, my doctor said that my cholesterol level is better than his! And I
can still hit the high note (four times) on "You Make Loving Fun" when it comes on
the radio.
