I encountered an unpleasant situation at the library this week that was not one bit like those shootings. But it still made me ill.
A female patron, probably older than me, stopped me to say that "this is the dirtiest library I've ever been." "It is?," I replied, rather surprised. (My library branch was remodeled in the summer of 2011. And while I can barely stand to occasionally pick kiddie food off the floor or pull out a hair that's stuck in a book, it's more of a pain to have to keep looking at it.)
"There are too many lowlifes in here," said the woman, so I then began to understand what she was talking about. Although Washington is a fairly "white" state in terms of its racial makeup, I've really proud of the diversity we attract to our library. Casually dressed patrons, professionals, many different races, and people in rehabilitation. Perhaps some homeless persons, too. It feels very lively where I work; I love it.
If you're talking race here lady, you're a pig. Merry freaking Christmas.
